The company revealed during its latest Nintendo Direct that games from its early handhelds will be available on Switch today.

Sorry for the long post - I know this doesn't affect many people, but it affects me, so just my two cents. After years of rumors, Nintendo is finally bringing Game Boy and Game Boy Advance titles to its Switch Online service. I miss the rock-solid performance of the early Switch games. We're coming up on the first anniversary of the remake's release and so I think the ship has sailed, but I'd like to use the occasion to raise awareness again of the fact this is a real issue for some people. I bought the Limited Edition for this and yet I've managed 15 minutes. With most games I can do my research and pick the console version with the most stable performance, but obviously I don't have that luxury with first-party titles. (Yes, I know it's not very Nintendo to provide graphical options, but nor is excluding certain players from a game with mass appeal by not chasing stable performance). If devs are willing to put in the work to ship with features like variable fonts and font sizes, scalable UI, colour-blind mode etc., I see no reason why a framerate-cap at 30fps toggle can't be patched in. Sure, you might not have noticed framerate inconsistency in this title - great for you, and no wonder you didn't given how much of this forum managed Bloodborne in its entirety - but for players like myself it means we can't play a game we were really looking forward to without discomfort at best. I agree - It's slightly maddening to read comments like that in here, and it's part of the reason I didn't make a thread about this recently despite wanting to.Īccessibility is something that we're starting to push for more in games, and inconsistent framerates and framepacing really is an issue for people like myself with visual difficulties.
